Sunday School 9:15am, Worship Service 10:30am

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:8 - 10

Our church’s mission is to proclaim the Good News of God’s grace to all people, to invite all persons into a loving relationship with God, and to model and teach Christian discipleship. We believe every person is a child of God, and is to be valued as God would value them. We welcome all kinds of people, from all backgrounds and age groups, into worship and fellowship. We especially welcome children, and offer a variety of programs and activities just for them. We believe that we must put God first in our lives, and recognize the need for all Christians to move into a deeper relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, worship and service. We are the family of God, and as such we bear each other’s burdens, rejoice with each other’s joys, and care for and comfort each other. We believe that the world is our parish and that the mission field starts at our own doorstep.

“Each one should be careful how he builds.  For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”  1 Cor 3:10 – 11 NIV

Greetings in the Name of the One who calls us The Beloved,

When you were a youngster, I wonder if you learned the same song I did about building your house on Jesus Christ?

“The wise man built his house upon the rock,

the wise man built his house upon the rock,

the wise man built his house upon the rock,

and the house on the rock stood firm.

The rains came down and the floods came up,

the rains came down and the floods came up,

the rains came down and the floods came up

and the house upon the rock stood firm.”

The song comes from the gospel stories of Jesus, but the passage above from Paul’s first letter to the church in Corinth served as a reminder to them, just as it does to us today, that our foundation for life is Jesus.  The ancient city of Corinth served the Roman Empire as an international center for trade, banking, travel and tourism, and was marked by warehouses, inns, taverns, foreign food restaurants, souvenir shops, amusement parlors, and temples for worship of every god imaginable.  The Roman Emperor had built this cultural and business center on top of an old Greek city, and the influences of both cultures remained.  Corinth was a city dominated by the temptations of an x-rated culture and a values-free world.  Paul’s challenge was to help the early Christians in that metropolis to live moral, pure, truthful lives.  Might there be any advice in those letters for us today?

This summer we will explore how Paul’s word from “way back then” is still relevant to us living two thousand years later, and how living according to God’s plan for us will shine for God in a dark world.  Won’t you join us?  Worship time for the summer remains at 10:30am.  We will continue to provide a weekly devotional guide that accompanies the Sunday worship theme, and starting this summer, that guide will be available online at our church’s website (for the electronically savvy in our congregation!)

Join us in building a solid foundation on God’s word.

            In Christ,

            Pastor Sharon

Pastor Sharon's new office hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 8:30-2:30 and other times by appointment.

Used Clothing Dropoff

We have a collection center for used clothing located behind the church in a large shed. The used clothing is separated, processed and recycled to needy families. What is unusable is baled and shipped out.

Please drop off only what is listed on the shed as acceptable. No rags, shreds or tatters or garbage, please. Stuffed toy animals and sneakers are also allowed.

Please put your used and recyclable clothes in bags and drop them in the chute on the shed. If you need a receipt for tax deductable purposes, there is a box with receipts in there; feel free to take one.

Thank you for your donations and consideration in helping the church and others through this clothes recycling program.

Welcome one and all!

Hello and welcome to the Sauquoit Valley United Methodist Church. In addition to our regular services every Sunday @ 10:30am, we try to improve our community by hosting both Boy and Girl Scout Troops along with our Church Youth Group. We give back to the community by hosting dinners throughout the year, allow the use of our building for various groups to meet and even have a Good Samaritan fund to help local folks in dire need. We believe we are all God's children and our doors are open to all who seek comfort. Please stop in if you get a chance; we promise to welcome you with open arms.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our website and return often. We will make every effort to keepit fresh and vibrant, and if there is anything you would like to see added or if you would like to make a comment, please contact us here.

Sunday School
What is WoRM?  WoRM stands for Workshop Rotation Model, and is a new way (for us) to do Sunday School for kids.  This workshop model spends more time on a single lesson, and incorporates different workshop opportunities, such as drama, music, cooking, crafts, games and even movies and stories!  Every month the Bible story changes; each week your class visits a different workshop.  All ages are welcome, even high schoolers!   Come and experience the WoRM!

Youth Group
Youth Group for grades 4 and up is Sunday at 6pm. Come with an open mind, and be prepared to get real with Gods word!

Youth Center
New this year? A youth center for middle schoolers in the Sauquoit Valley School District.  What will we do? There'll be food available, games to play, and a place to hang out with your friends.  No preaching, we promise!  Check us out.
